St. Austell and the surrounding areas are still a hive of activity despite the cooler weather descending, below is a summary of our favourite winter activities for your inspiration:
Fireworks – Lappa Valley is known for their annual “Grand fireworks Spectaculars” and nearby towns such as Truro and Newquay host bonfire and firework nights. All of which are popular with the local communities.
Christmas theme – Christmas Markets are everywhere this time of year, many of which host local vendors selling delightful Cornish Produce, speciality food and drink vendors, often coupled with live music – there’s something for everyone!
The below list are some of our favourites, no doubt there are others waiting to be discovered.
-
St Austell Town Centre: St Austell typically hosts its own "Christmas Shopping & Family Fun" days with markets and entertainment in the town centre.
-
Charlestown Christmas Market: Located at Penrice Academy, this indoor market features a wide variety of local food, drink, and craft traders, as well as live music.
-
Cornwall Christmas Fair at the Eden Project: This is a popular event that features dozens of independent stalls selling gifts, home accessories, food, and more, all within the sparkling setting of the Eden Project.
-
Fowey Christmas Market: A truly magical festive event, Fowey's market attracts tens of thousands of visitors to the harbour town with its Christmas shopping, music, and local food.
Spa deals – Many spas in the area offer special packages in the off-season, often with afternoon tea and choices of hot beverages or bubbly prosecco!
Eden Project - Make use of that annual Eden Pass! The Eden project hosts special events in these months including light shows and ice skating (for those brave enough!). Of course, the biomes are a welcome breath of tropical air as our temperatures drop.
Heligan Gardens – The lost gardens of Heligan put on night garden display every year, typically between mid-November until early January, and each year it gets better! They also supply a range of local food vendors, and the gift shop stays open till late. This evening outing is a firm favourite of the staff here!
Local art galleries, museums, & tours – There are many small galleries and museums in the nearby towns / coastal areas, these are a great way to spend a rainy afternoon. St. Austell Brewery offer a fantastic visitors tour, and the Wheal Martyn Museum (just up the road!) provides an entertaining and educational history of the mining area. Bonus points for their delightful Café.
Lots more events can be found using the local “Whats on” guides such as Cornwall 365 or AllEvents.
*Winter savers deal is running between the 1st November 2025 and the 28th of February 2026. 2-course meal excludes the Sirloin Steak & Mixed grill and must be used on one of your two nights stay.
